You know of Kenya’s diversity and beauty. Of its vibrant cultures, teeming wildlife, and colourful birds. Of its breathtaking landscapes and dazzling beaches. What you’re not sure of, is when, or rather, the best time to visit. You’ve come to the right place!

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Kenya is during the dry season which begins in June and ends in October. During these months, wildlife is relatively easier to spot due to the lack of vegetation. Plus, if you visit during this season, you’ll get to witness Masai Mara’s annual Great Wildebeest Migration.

Peak Season

The following months are considered peak season in Kenya; July-November and January to February. What’s peak season? You might ask. Peak or high season is when the number of tourists is at its highest in Kenya. Prices for flights, accommodations, and hotels are usually the highest at this time but fortunately or unfortunately this is when game viewing is at its optimum best. Other perks of visiting during peak season include;
  • the lack of/ fewer mosquitos
  • Excellent weather

Low Season

The rainy season of March to May is considered a low season in Kenya. While wildlife viewing is not the best during these months, the prices for flights and accommodation is low, making it the best time for budget travellers to visit.

With a record-breaking population of over 170 mammal species and a listing that features destinations such as the Chobe National Park and Okavango Delta, we totally get why you’d want to visit Botswana. Here are the best times to visit this spectacular southern African country.

Best Times to Visit Botswana for…

Best places for a safari in Botswana based on what you wish to do and see.
Game Viewing
The best time to visit Botswana for wildlife viewing is during the dry season which runs from June to October. In the dry seasons, animals congregate in watering holes making them easier to spot. The thin vegetation present during this season also makes spotting wildlife easy.
best time to go on safari
The dry season (June to October) is the best time to go on a safari in Botswana

If you are particularly interested in visiting the Okavango Delta, we suggest doing so in August. Water levels are at their highest in the Delta in August and as we all know, animals are suckers for a good water source.

Bird Watching

Peak bird watching happens in Botswana in December when migratory birds fly into the country in droves.

Wild Dog Watching

Desperate to see the wild dogs of Botswana? June to September is your best bet! Denning season falls within this period so get packing

Peak Season.

Unbeatable wildlife viewing opportunities, favourable temperatures, and the Northern Hemisphere school holidays are a few of the factors that make June to October the busiest safari months in Botswana.

Again, low-budget safari goers should avoid booking safaris in these months as prices are usually at their highest.

Instead, they should book their safaris during the low season (December to April).

The Rainbow Nation of South Africa boasts a diversity like no other. Ranging from the beautiful cityscape of Cape Town to the gently rolling plains of the Kruger National Park. But what’s the best time to visit South Africa? Well, it depends on where you’re going and why you’re going.

Here are the Best Times to Visit South Africa for…

Wildlife Viewing/ Walking Safaris
Best time for safari
Walking safaris are best enjoyed in the dry season
Weather conditions differ from place to place in South Africa and we have the ocean and latitudinal position to blame. For instance, if you’re planning on visiting the Kruger National Park(or any other park located east of the country) then it’s best to do so during the winter months of May to September. Dry weather means thinner vegetation which makes animal spotting easy. Also, animals tend to gather around rivers and water holes in the dry season. Those planning to visit areas in the western cape including Cape Town should do so during the dry summer months (November to March). At this time, daytime temperatures average between 25 ° C and 27 ° C (perfect weather to enjoy the beaches in the western cape).
Whale Watching
Though whale watching happens all year round in South Africa, July and October is when it’s really in full swing. For the ultimate adventure, head to Hermanus rated by the World Wildlife Fund as one of the best whale-watching destinations worldwide.
Budget Travelers
Are you a traveller on a budget? Then April to September is the magic period for you. There are fewer visitors in the country at this time so you can always find some great deals on accommodation, car rentals, and safaris.
Peak/ High Season
October to March is a high season in South Africa because both the school holidays and Christmas fall within this period.

Home to the Serengeti National Park and Kilimanjaro, Tanzania really is the stuff of legends. However, to experience a fully transformational adventure in this country you have to go further than just knowing the destinations. You have to know when to visit and that is what we’re here for.

Best Times to Visit Tanzania for…

Great Wildebeest Migration (Serengeti National Park)
Contrary to what many people think or say, the Great Migration is a year-round occurrence (not a single event). A lot goes on in that one year; the river crossings, calving, breeding, you name it. The Calving season, for example, happens in February in southern Serengeti. Book your safari around this time for awwing views of teeny-tiny baby animals. The breeding season, on the other hand, falls between the months of April to May in central and western Serengeti. We then have the Grumeti River crossings which happen from May to June in Central Serengeti and the star of the show, the Mara River crossings, which begin in June and end in September in northern Serengeti.
Wildlife Viewing
The dry season (June to October) promises premium wildlife watching in popular Tanzanian parks like the Tarangire National Park. Not to worry if you can’t make it during this period: northern-circuit parks like the Selous game reserve still have very productive game drives during the wet season (November to May).
Low-budget Travelers
Low-budget travellers are more likely to strike gold (read discounted stays) in the wet season (March to May). There is a huge possibility that some areas will be inaccessible due to the heavy rains but the lush landscapes and excellent birding opportunities make up for it.

Uganda is a diverse country with various attractions ranging from primates to snow-capped peaks. When it comes to planning a trip to Uganda, choosing the right time of year can be just as important as selecting the right destination. Here are our tips on when to visit.

Best Time to Go to Uganda for…

Wildlife Viewing
The two dry seasons which fall between June and August and between December and February are the best times to go on a Uganda safari. At this time, animals gather around rivers and watering areas making them easier to spot. P.S. The weather is also immaculate for gorilla trekking and chimpanzee spotting.
Bird Spotting
The wet season of March to May is perfect for bird spotting in Uganda. It is also around this time that most animals give birth to their young ones. The disadvantage of going in the wet season is that some roads may be impassable due to heavy rains. However, if you can brave it out and make it to the national parks, you are in for an unforgettable experience.
Low Budget Travelers
Popular parks such as the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are less crowded during the low season (October to November). Lesser crowds mean lower prices and more chances to strike gold with discounts.
Peak Season
For obvious reasons, the two dry seasons (between June and August and between December and February) are considered peak times for safaris. The Christmas Break (December and January) is also a pricey affair but there are deals to be found if you book early. As an added bonus, the parks become alive with blooming flowers and twittering birds. It’s also worth noting that this is a peak season for cultural events such as the Nyege Nyege Festival and Rhino Charge Uganda.

Rwanda. Voted the cleanest country in Africa and home to at least 136 mammal species. That Rwanda is breathtaking is not in question; the question is ‘Which are the best times to visit Rwanda?’ Read on to find out.

When to Visit Rwanda for…

Wildlife Viewing
In Rwanda, the dry season begins in June and ends in September and if there’s anything you’ve learned from this article is that the dry season is usually the best time for wildlife viewing. Not only is wildlife spotting exceptional during this time but so is gorilla trekking, for which the country is best known.
Low Travel Discount
The rainy season, also known as the green season, (October to May) is usually the best time for budget travellers to make their way to Rwanda. During this season, few people visit the country and that’s why there are almost always discounts up for grabs. The disadvantage of visiting at this time is that forest trails tend to be slippery and some roads may be inaccessible due to heavy rains.
Bird Spotting
The rainy season is a great time for birders to flock to Rwanda. The wet climate creates a thriving habitat for some of the rarest species in Africa and there is almost always something new to discover. It’s also worth noting that this is the ideal time to go on a guided nature walk, as most of the country’s forests come alive with blooms and lush vegetation.
Peak Season
The peak season in Rwanda usually falls between June and September. This is the driest and warmest season in the country and hence a popular time for safaris. As there are often more tourists during this time, you can expect higher prices for accommodation and services. However, if you book early enough, there are usually discounts to be found.

An essential destination for any wildlife enthusiast, Namibia promises exceptional safaris all year round. However, depending on your interests, it is important that you put a lot of thought behind the timing f your safari.

Here are the Best Times to Visit Namibia for…

Wildlife Viewing
The dry season (June to October) is an excellent time to spot game life in Namibia. Unsurprisingly, this is also the peak season meaning popular parks like the Etosha National Park are at full capacity. The disadvantage of travelling during peak times is prices tend to be higher. But again, the experience more than makes up for it.
Low Travel Discounts
The green season (April, May, and November) is ideal for budget travellers as prices are generally lower. Wildlife watching is good (not exceptional) and you get to enjoy it without the crowds of June to October. Bird watching is also exceptional at this time.
Events and Socializing
Key events like the Bank Windhoek Triennial Art Exhibition, the Windhoek Karneval, and the African Mountain Bike Championship happen in April. This makes April a great time for those who plan to explore the country’s culture and socialize with locals. It is also worth noting that April is the best time for stargazing, as the skies are clear and uninterrupted.

Which are the best times to go on safari in Zambia? We tell you all about it.

January to April

The rainy season is at its peak in January and February. Though the landscape is lush and breathtaking at this time, safarying at this time is not advisable because most of the roads are often impassable. Though there is still plenty of rainfall, the rainy season is nearing its end in March. Migratory birds jet into Zambia in thousands at this time, making it an ideal time to go bird-watching. April is the best time for budget travellers to go on safari in Zambia. By this time, rainfall has decreased significantly and though wildlife viewing is not at its peak, the landscape is a wonder to witness.

May and June

May marks the beginning of the dry season and is the best time for wildlife viewing. It is also an excellent time to view the Victoria Falls. June is a busier safari month than May, with more tourists flocking to Zambia for the purpose of wildlife viewing.

July and August

The dry season reaches its peak in July and August. Wildlife viewing is at its best during these months and the heat can be quite unbearable in some parts. It is recommended that you take plenty of water when going on safari in Zambia during these two months.

September and October

The dry season is still in full swing in September and October. Game viewing, fishing, bird watching, and white-water rafting in Victoria Falls are all great activities to do at this time.

November and December

November marks the end of the dry season and the short rainy season begins in earnest. At this time, the landscape becomes lush and green once again. Wildlife viewing is still excellent during these months and bird watching is at its peak. This is an excellent time to visit Zambia for budget travellers and wildlife enthusiasts.

The best time to visit Zimbabwe for game viewing is from May to October. During this period, the weather is usually dry and warm, making it perfect for game drives in popular parks like the Hwange National Park and the Mana Pools National Park. For budget travellers, November to April is ideal as prices tend to be lower. Wildlife viewing is still good during this period and bird watching is at its peak. Events like the Great Zimbabwe Cultural Festival, the Harare International Festival of the Arts, and the Chimanimani Arts Festival also take place during this time.
