Introduction

Governors’ Camp, established in 1972, proudly holds the title of Africa’s first permanent tented camp, retaining its original charm and location. Situated in a prime wildlife viewing location within the Masai Mara National Reserve, the camp is nestled amidst a lush riverine forest along the winding banks of the Mara River. This vibrant waterway is alive with bird-life, hippos, and crocodiles, offering guests an incredible time in nature. The entire camp is designed under canvas, providing the luxury and comfort of a high-end hotel while maintaining a classic safari style.

Among the 30 guest tents, some are strategically positioned along the riverbank, offering uninterrupted views of the Mara River, while others overlook the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara. Each tent is spacious, bright, and allows plenty of natural light, featuring en-suite bathrooms and a private verandah for a personal nature retreat. The camp’s bar tent, with its deck overlooking the Mara River, and the dining tent, offering panoramic views of the plains, enhance the safari experience.

Access to Governors’ Camp is flexible, with options to travel by road or air. Daily flights from Nairobi to the Masai Mara are available through Governors’ Aviation, Air Kenya, and Safarilink airlines. For those preferring a scenic drive, the journey through the Rift Valley takes approximately six hours from Nairobi, providing a picturesque introduction to your safari adventure.
