Reserve Entry Fees & Park Rules 2024 & 2025
The Masai Mara entry fees were last updated in late 2023, following the Maasai Mara Management Plan, Greater Masai Mara Ecosystem Management Plan, and Narok County’s Physical & Land Use Development Plan. Now, park entry fees don’t depend on where you stay in the Reserve, making it simpler for everyone.
2025 MASAI MARA PARK ENTRY FEE:
The Narok County Government has set the Masai Mara Park Fees for 2025 as follows:
USD 100 per non-resident adult each day from January 1st to June 30th, 2025.
USD 200 per non-resident adult each day starting July 1st, 2025, which also applies to 2024 until December 31st, 2024.
CHILDREN FEES from January 1st to December 31st, 2025: Children aged 9 to 17 years will pay USD 50 per day. Kids up to 8 years old can enjoy free entry when they leave the park.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: NEW TIMING RULES EFFECTIVE FROM JULY 1, 2023
Starting from July 1, 2023, a 12-hour ticket validity has been introduced for Masai Mara entry. Here’s what you need to know:
Daily Entry Fee: If you’re staying outside the reserve, you’ll need to pay the park entry fee each day. Your ticket will be valid from 6 AM to 6 PM.
Leaving by Road: If you’re leaving the reserve by road, make sure to exit by 10 AM. If you stay beyond this time, you’ll need to pay an additional entry fee.
Leaving by Air: Guests staying inside or outside the reserve and departing by air should be at the airstrip by 10 AM. Staying past this time will count as another day, requiring an extra park fee.
Transit Ticket: For guests coming from hotels outside the reserve, a 2-hour transit ticket will be provided at the entry gate. This allows you to reach the airstrips within the reserve.
Remember, other rules might apply. For more details, check with the Narok County Government offices or visit their website at www.narok.go.ke.
If you’re curious about the cost of visiting the Masai Mara for a tour, most Masai Mara Safari packages include the entry fee for tourists. It’s a good idea to confirm with your tour operator. However, Fly-In Safaris usually require you to pay the fee upon landing. Keep in mind that all information and fees listed here might change without notice, so double-check with the reserve authorities. For Kenya National Park entry fees, the official authority is the KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service).
How to Pay / Mode of Payment: You can pay in cash using US Dollars or Kenya Shillings at the entry gates. However, if you’re entering the western side of the reserve, like the Mara Triangle – Mara Conservancy area, only cashless payments are accepted (Visa/Mastercard or Mpesa Mobile Money). Cashless options are also available at other gates, including Sekenani and Talek gates. Kenyan citizens and residents need to carry identification and proof of residence to get the cheaper Resident rates. You can also pre-pay for tickets in advance through the KAPS company located in the KATO office, Longonot Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi.

Park Rules
The rules are here to make sure everyone has a great safari experience while keeping both visitors and the wildlife of the Mara Triangle safe. Please follow these guidelines and listen to our rangers, who are there to protect you, the animals, and the environment.
Check out our visitor map for details.
If there are more than five vehicles waiting to see an animal, you can only watch for 10 minutes. Other vehicles must wait 100 meters away.
Breaking the Rules: What Happens Next
If you don’t follow the park rules, the Mara Conservancy rangers have the power to take action. Here’s what they can do:
They can charge you a fine right away, which could be KSh 10,000.
They might ask you or your vehicle to leave the park immediately or even ban you from returning.
Violation Type | Penalty Details |
---|---|
Default on Park Entry Fee Payment | a) Vehicle Entry = Ksh 2,000 per entry b) Driver Charge = Ksh 2,000 c) Repeat Offense = Ksh 4,000 |
Possession of Invalid Ticket | Ksh 3,000 per person |
Off-road Driving | Ksh 10,000 |
Harassment of Animals | Ksh 10,000 |
Littering Within the Park | Ksh 500 |

Fines should be settled at the rangers’ office before leaving the Mara Triangle. Always ask for a receipt as proof of payment. Not paying fines might lead to a six-month ban from the Mara Triangle, depending on the violation.
We encourage everyone to help protect the Mara Triangle. If you witness any park rules being broken, please take a photo of the incident. Note the date, time, tour operator, and vehicle license number, and send this information to mara@maratriangle.org. You can also report to our rangers at Oloololo and Purungat Bridge Gates. The same rules apply to the Masai Mara National Reserve on the Narok County side.
